Due to safety concerns, IRS ends unannounced taxpayer visits

Effective immediately, the IRS has ended unannounced visits to taxpayers’ homes in an effort to protect agency revenue officers amid safety concerns. Instead, taxpayers will receive mailed letters to schedule an in-person meeting with a revenue officer in a safe, controlled environment. This not only protects the agency’s employees, but also comforts taxpayers due to the growing number of scammers who pose as agents visiting taxpayers’ homes.
