Safeguard Against Identity Theft with IP PINs

As the 2025 tax season approaches, the IRS is encouraging taxpayers to protect themselves from tax-related identity theft by getting an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN). This six-digit code helps prevent unauthorized people from filing a tax return using your Social Security or Taxpayer ID number. To stay protected, taxpayers are advised to sign up for an IP PIN through their IRS Online Account by November 23, 2024. "Signing up early will provide extra security," the IRS said. For those who can’t create an online account, other options are available, such as in-person verification at a Taxpayer Assistance Center.
