Summer Day Camp Expenses May Qualify for Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit

The IRS has reminded taxpayers that they might be eligible for the Child and Dependent Care tax credit if they pay for summer day camps. This credit helps working parents who need to cover the cost of caring for children under 13 while they work or look for work. Unlike overnight camps, expenses for day camps can count toward this credit. In 2024, taxpayers can get up to 35% back on qualifying childcare expenses, with a maximum of $3,000 for one child and $6,000 for two or more. To claim the credit, they need to include the day camp's name, address, and taxpayer identification number on their tax return.
